The True Story of Thanksgiving - Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: It's time for the traditional true story of Thanksgiving, as written by me in my second best seller of 2.5 million copies in hardback: See, I Told You So. "Chapter 6, Dead White Guys, or What the History Books Never Told You: The True Story of Thanksgiving -- The story of the Pilgrims begins in the early part of the seventeenth century (that's the 1600s for those of you in Rio Linda, California). The Church of England under King James I was persecuting anyone and everyone who did not recognize its absolute civil and spiritual authority. Those who challenged ecclesiastical authority and those who believed strongly in freedom of worship were hunted down, imprisoned, and sometimes executed for their beliefs. A group of separatists first fled to Holland and established a community.

"After eleven years, about forty of them agreed to make a perilous journey to the New World, where they would certainly face hardships, but could live and worship God according to the dictates of their own consciences. On August 1, 1620, the Mayflower set sail. It carried a total of 102 passengers, including forty Pilgrims led by William Bradford. On the journey, Bradford set up an agreement, a contract, that established just and equal laws for all members of the new community, irrespective of their religious beliefs. Where did the revolutionary ideas expressed in the Mayflower Compact come from? From the Bible. The Pilgrims were a people completely steeped in the lessons of the Old and New Testaments. They looked to the ancient Israelites for their example.

"And, because of the biblical precedents set forth in Scripture, they never doubted that their experiment would work. But this was no pleasure cruise, friends. The journey to the New World was a long and arduous one. And when the Pilgrims landed in New England in November, they found, according to Bradford's detailed journal, a cold, barren, desolate wilderness. There were no friends to greet them, he wrote. There were no houses to shelter them. There were no inns where they could refresh themselves. And the sacrifice they had made for freedom was just beginning. During the first winter, half the Pilgrims – including Bradford's own wife – died of either starvation, sickness or exposure. When spring finally came, Indians taught the settlers how to plant corn, fish for cod and skin beavers for coats.

"Life improved for the Pilgrims, but they did not yet prosper! This is important to understand because this is where modern American history lessons often end. Thanksgiving is actually explained in some textbooks as a holiday for which the Pilgrims gave thanks to the Indians for saving their lives, rather than as a devout expression of gratitude grounded in the tradition of both the Old and New Testaments. Here is the part that has been omitted: The original contract the Pilgrims had entered into with their merchant-sponsors in London called for everything they produced to go into a common store, and each member of the community was entitled to one common share. All of the land they cleared and the houses they built belong to the community as well. They were going to distribute it equally. All of the land they cleared and the houses they built belonged to the community as well.

"Nobody owned anything. They just had a share in it. It was a commune, folks. It was the forerunner to the communes we saw in the '60s and '70s out in California – and it was complete with organic vegetables, by the way. Bradford, who had become the new governor of the colony, recognized that this form of collectivism was as costly and destructive to the Pilgrims as that first harsh winter, which had taken so many lives. He decided to take bold action. Bradford assigned a plot of land to each family to work and manage, thus turning loose the power of the marketplace. That's right. Long before Karl Marx was even born, the Pilgrims had discovered and experimented with what could only be described as socialism. And what happened? It didn't work!"

"It never has worked! "What Bradford and his community found was that the most creative and industrious people had no incentive to work any harder than anyone else, unless they could utilize the power of personal motivation! But while most of the rest of the world has been experimenting with socialism for well over a hundred years – trying to refine it, perfect it, and re-invent it – the Pilgrims decided early on to scrap it permanently. What Bradford wrote about this social experiment should be in every schoolchild's history lesson. If it were, we might prevent much needless suffering in the future. 'The experience that we had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years...that by taking away property, and bringing community into a common wealth, would make them happy and flourishing – as if they were wiser than God,' Bradford wrote.

"'For this community [so far as it was] was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For young men that were most able and fit for labor and service did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men's wives and children without any recompense ... that was thought injustice.' Why should you work for other people when you can't work for yourself? What's the point? Do you hear what he was saying, ladies and gentlemen? The Pilgrims found that people could not be expected to do their best work without incentive. So what did Bradford's community try next? They unharnessed the power of good old free enterprise by invoking the undergirding capitalistic principle of private property.

"Every family was assigned its own plot of land to work and permitted to market its own crops and products. And what was the result? 'This had very good success,' wrote Bradford, 'for it made all hands industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been.' Bradford doesn't sound like much of a Clintonite" I wrote then "does he? Is it possible that supply-side economics could have existed before the 1980s? Yes. Read the story of Joseph and Pharaoh in Genesis 41. Following Joseph's suggestion (Gen 41:34), Pharaoh reduced the tax on Egyptians to 20% during the 'seven years of plenty' and the 'Earth brought forth in heaps.' (Gen. 41:47) In no time, the Pilgrims found they had more food than they could eat themselves.

"Now, this is where it gets really good, folks, if you're laboring under the misconception that I was, as I was taught in school. So they set up trading posts and exchanged goods with the Indians. The profits allowed them to pay off their debts to the merchants in London. And the success and prosperity of the Plymouth settlement attracted more Europeans and began what came to be known as the 'Great Puritan Migration.'" But this story stops when the Indians taught the newly arrived suffering in socialism Pilgrims how to plant corn and fish for cod. That's where the story stops, and the story basically doesn't even begin there. The real story of Thanksgiving is William Bradford giving thanks to God for the guidance and the inspiration to set up a thriving colony. The bounty was shared with the Indians. They did sit down and they had dinner, and I think they had a turkey, but it was not the Indians who saved the day. It was capitalism and Scripture which saved the day."

The Official Obama Criticizer- NFL Episode

The Official Obama Criticizer
October 16, 2009
BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Now, ladies and gentlemen, the Official Obama Criticizer, Bo Snerdley, asked me yesterday if he could enter this fray. His theory is that he is Certified Black Enough to legitimately and without criticism criticize Obama. And he would like to say some words about this NFL episode. So without any further delay, here is Mr. Bo Snerdley, the Official Obama Criticizer here on the EIB Network.SNERDLEY: This is Bo Snerdley, Official Obama Criticizer for the EIB Network. Certified Black Enough to criticize with 100% organic slave blood. Today, Obama isn't the issue. This is the special sports edition. And I have a statement: "My fellow Americans, this week, a racial spectacle has been played out which is nothing less than disgraceful." You know what? Screw this! We're going to the translation right now, only this time it's not a translation for the EIB brothers and sisters in the 'hood, it's a translation to the 'hood. Yo, my fellow homeys, especially those of you who play in the NFL: Every single one of you who shouted out against Rush, check yourself, dog. You got played, okay? Rush ain't your problem, yo. He never was your problem. He never will be your problem. Twenty years, man! For 20 years Rush has been telling everybody: You brothers in the NFL deserve to get paid. The NFL and every other sports league there is got a break it off to you because you the best, right? The owners they got to break it off to you, give up your props, give you your props. Any of you fools know that, yo? No. Instead you get all puffed up behind some Obama flackie, jump on TV, start mouthing off about "Rush said this! Rush said that! Slavery this, slavery that," whatever, whatever. It was all made up, yo! Some of these clown reporters on TV who fed all the stuff to you, yo, you know what they doing now? They are out here trying to apologize quietly so they don't get their asses sued, yo! Check that out. Y'all got played. So here's your question for you brothers, especially some of y'all in the NFL. Y'all going to man up? Y'all going to man and up say, "Hey, we got played man. We kinda sorry. Oops, we didn't know."Okay, now, let me -- while I'm -- yo, let me get this off, okay? McNabb. Can we just do this one more time? Square up. Even if Rush said what y'all thought he said, which he didn't say, what's the biggie? Y'all thought he said that McNabb wasn't all that and was getting props because people wanted a black guy to succeed at quarterback. So what? So what? Don't y'all want to see a black quarterback make it, yo? I do. So the sports media guys, he said they want him to succeed, what's the big deal? Is there a problem here, yo? And McNabb? You a punk, yo. Now, my NFL brothers, let me ask you a question here. Who was it that whipped Michael Vick a new one after he got done in the joint? Was it Rush? Nope. It was a bunch of your white liberal sportswriter guys pretending they loved their dogs more than they loved their wives, okay? That's who ripped all over Michael Vick. Who's been ripping Plaxico, who's been ripping Pacman? Every time y'all get going... Who was it that ran T.O. on up out of Dallas, yo? Okay, was it Rush? No. Okay? Now for all of you homeys, this is outside the NFL. For all my brothers and sisters, y'all want to get pissed off about somebody insulting black people? Why don't y'all watch BET, Black "Exploitation" Television, okay? You want to know who's calling black women, "Bitches ho this, bitches ho that"? Is it Rush Limbaugh? No. Who's telling y'all that all you can do is jiggle your butts on TV? Is it Rush Limbaugh? Rush ain't your enemy, yo. You know what the biggest threat to black men is in America, yo?It ain't Rush Limbaugh. It's other black men who are killing off brothers like they did that young boy out in Chicago, okay? A quarter of our brothers don't even make it to be age 25 'cause they get shot up by other black men. Is Rush out there pulling the trigger? No. And y'all brothers, you got anything to say about it? Especially y'all in the NFL. Y'all get paid, y'all leave the hood, that's that. Not a word. Okay? Now, for all of y'all who live deep in the hood, I got another question: Is it Rush Limbaugh stopping your kids from being educated in your run-down schools, in your run-down-ass neighborhoods? No. Who is it? And where's Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on that instead of flapping their mouth about all this other stuff that they don't know anything else about? How come Al, Jesse, and y'all are living large and the 'hood is still the 'hood? That concludes my statement.RUSH: That's the Official Obama Criticizer, Bo Snerdley.

The Truth About Jackson, Sharpton and CNN's Sanchez (with Sources)
October 14, 2009
RUSH: The estimable Sheila Jackson Lee, Democrat, Texas, took to the floor of the House of Representatives last night. We have two sound bites of her remarks.LEE: I stand with the NFL Players Association not to make Rush Limbo (sic) any kind of national standard or a national hero or the national issue. He is not the kind of owner that the NFL needs. He does not represent the fullness of appreciation of athletes of all diverse backgrounds, no matter what he wants to pretend to say on his radio station. Just as they are about to select him as a judge for a Miss America contest, I can't understand that, but that is their choice. Maybe they think he'll bring in millions of listeners. But can you imagine a poor girl, scared already, to be able to ask a question about the person she admires most, and she says somebody that happens to be a different political affiliation, she is of course not a winner. But that's their decision.RUSH: I wonder if Ms. Jackson Lee has any regard for the truth. Does she have any regard for hoping, desiring to sound intelligent and knowledgeable or is she content and happy and proud to go to the floor of the House of Representatives and make a fool of herself? Do you think she knows the name Carrie Prejean? Maybe it will help here on "my radio station" if I explain to her who Carrie Prejean is. Miss California in the USA pageant. She was asked a purely political question by a lunatic, radical, sick, gay blogger about gay marriage. She gave the same answer to that question that the organizer of the pageant, Donald Trump, has given to that answer, and the president of the United States. She gave the same answer to the question as Obama gave and she was drummed out of her title. And here comes Sheila Jackson Lee, off now to protect not only the National Football League, helping to spread lies, but now hoping to protect the Miss America Pageant. The United States government has people who are now totally comfortable in targeting an individual citizen. Harry Reid has done it, now Sheila Jackson Lee is getting in on the action in the United States of America. Here's the next sound bite.LEE: Anybody that wants to call a quarterback in Pennsylvania and call him out, he happens to be African-American, as not being competent, just somebody that the media has promoted, not being talented, interestingly enough that football player is -- happens to still be playing and doing a great job. Well, I don't know why in the heck, other than the big dollar, that Rush Limbo (sic) would be interested in the NFL. And so we're not interested in him, either.RUSH: Well, then why did you take all that time to spread lies about me on the floor of the House of Representatives? I'm the guy, Ms. Jackson Lee, who has defended the money athletes make on the basis of their unique talents and the nature of the free market, which awards them their value, based on their ability to get it. She said much more than this, but that's the flavor of it. So the whole media here has been poisoned. The Democrat Party has been poisoned with lies and fabrications and misstatements, quotes that were never made -- (interruption) Snerdley is yelling in my ear, "What makes her a sports expert, who the hell is she?" See, this is the difference between me and Sheila Jackson Lee. If election time came around and I happened to live in her district I'd vote against her, but she can say what she wants. These are the people that have power over us. I don't have any power where Sheila Jackson Lee is concerned, I have nothing to say about what she does, I have nothing to say about the way she votes, and I don't seek any power over Sheila Jackson Lee. She on the other hand is just the opposite. She wants power over not just me but as many people as she can get. So there's a storm, folks. Now, we've all been through these things before. And I mentioned in the previous hour you've overwhelmed me with your e-mails and letters of support and your desire to do something. I know you want to be turned loose. I know there's something you want to do, just take some kind of action. But we've been through this before. We've been through all these storms, and when the storm surge finally retreats and things return to a modicum of normalcy on the beach, the rock is still there, not going anywhere. We always come through these things better and in a more solid position than we were even when they all began, because these kind of tactics and this kind of behavior always end up backfiring on the perpetrators of lies and falsehoods. Maybe not immediately, but in the big scheme of things, they always do. Snerdley, you want to really get mad? I've got something that's going to make you madder than you have been all week. And those of you, too, in the audience, if you're mad now, wait 'til you hear the Reverend Jackson on local Chicago TV last night spreading the two false quotes.
JACKSON: I stand with the players because he has been so insulting and so incendiary in his comments. The idea that James Earl Ray who killed Dr. King should get an award --MCCLENDON: Whoo.JACKSON: -- cuts really deep. The comments that slavery was a bad system but it had some merits, at least the streets were safe. The statement he made about McNabb that got him run off of ESPN. So he -- he has literally made a -- a living of stoking the fires of fear, making money, now wants to use that money to have the power over the lives of players black and white.RUSH: Plantation owner. Now, this is Mr. Jesse Hymietown Jackson. This is Jesse Jackson who got on the bus with Al Sharpton and sped down to Durham, North Carolina, during the Duke lacrosse case and promptly pronounced the Duke lacrosse players guilty. We all know how that ended up. Jesse Jackson, who has made a living shaking people down. Jesse Jackson who has made a living stoking racial fires. Jesse Jackson who has made a living profiting off of racial disharmony that he promotes, seeks out, and shows up to attend the fire each time that he starts. These two quotes, I talked about them yesterday, James Earl Ray, where is he? We need to give the guy a medal. Slavery, oh, yeah, it was really great, you know, the streets were safe at night. These quotes, ostensibly made back in 1998, just now surfacing after 11 years? The quotes were never uttered. They are purely fabricated. We know who made 'em up. We know who spread them. Jesse Jackson doesn't care that they're false. This is my point about Jesse Jackson. If the truth prevailed in the life of Jesse Jackson there would be no Jesse Jackson. Jesse Jackson is a series of walking, fraudulent lies about any number of people that he has sought to attack. He doesn't care that these things are made up. They fit the template, they fulfill his agenda. They get him on television once again. What is really sick and funny at the same time is that our corrupt, polluted media continues to prop up people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as credible spokesmen for an entire race of people. If it weren't for the media accolades and attention to people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, they would not be factors. Where's the fact-check? CNN fact-checks comedy skits on Saturday Night Live. Where's the fact-check in any of this? The reporter interviewing the Reverend Jackson, does he not know that all this is false and that the Reverend Jackson is making a fool of himself, or does he not care? So, it is what it is. These people are who they are. And again, folks, it is not about me. When Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton ride to the scene with Sharpton and Jackson taking turns driving this bus, when they show up and the media promotes what they're doing, this is about an all-out assault again on conservatism, people who are capitalists, who believe in individual liberty, freedom, and rugged individualism. I thought the libs were upset about the behavior of citizens at the town hall meetings. Now we hear from Chris Matthews, he talks about somebody putting a pellet gun in my mouth and pulling the trigger. We hear race-baiters with pens putting words in my mouth and so forth. Where is all this clamor for civility? Where did it go? Just last month, throughout the month of August, all we heard about from these people in the media, "Look how civil discourse is being ripped apart. Who are these people showing up at these town hall meetings and at these tea parties, who are these unsavory --" They were just average citizens who were about to explode, people who have not shown up at a town hall meeting or anything like a public protest their whole lives have reached their breaking point. They don't have a political party representing them anymore. They don't have anybody in the government speaking up for them. Their government is attacking them. Their government is destroying their economy. They've got nothing else to do but go to their elected officials and say, "Stop it, we don't want this." And during all that, the media, "Where is the civility? Oh, no! Talk radio and the blogs and Fox News have destroyed civility." This week, an anchor at MSNBC enthusiastically ponders somebody putting a pellet gun in my mouth and pulling the trigger and blowing me up as Mr. Big from the movie Live and Let Die. Apparently, I also cannot call out Donovan McNabb, as a fan, and express my opinion of an NFL quarterback, as a fan, and I can't express my opinion about the media's kiss-ass treatment. But, I have to sit around and listen to people like Ted Kennedy and Harry Reid and Barney Frank and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton destroy Clarence Thomas. We can't comment on that. Oh, no. They are perfectly permitted to try to destroy Clarence Thomas and Robert Bork. They can go after black conservatives at town hall meetings and beat them up, and we can't say anything about that. We can't say there's a little thuggery going on from the SEIU union people beating up a 34-year-old black conservative, oh, no, no, we can't talk about that. No, that's racist to bring that up. But we have to sit around and watch that, we can't call out Donovan McNabb or anybody else who happens to play the game of football. I didn't even call out McNabb, I called out the media. Can't do that, either. I never said he wasn't talented. I just said he wasn't as good as a bunch of clowns at ESPN who are just like sock puppets who had a crush. It's sort of embarrassing to watch it, actually.
BREAK TRANSCRIPTRUSH: By the way, speaking of lies -- and speaking of James Earl Ray, a vicious lie that the Reverend Jackson is knowingly spreading about me -- let's talk about another lie involving Jesse Jackson and James Earl Ray. Let's not forget the Reverend Jackson's claim to fame and how it actually began. The morning after Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated, Jesse Jackson (who had hired a PR firm) did television interviews claiming that King had died in his arms. It was a blatant lie, according to Ralph David Abernathy, who said that the Reverend Jackson wasn't even there at the time of the assassination. But he did show up in time to take some of Dr. King's blood and smear it on his own shirt to promote the lie that he had held Dr. King in his arms. (interruption) You didn't know that, Dawn? And now, Jesse Jackson is lying about me. Over and over again, and repeatedly so. Blatantly and knowingly so. BREAK TRANSCRIPTRUSH: Rick Sanchez, CNN Newsroom yesterday afternoon...SANCHEZ: One of the quotes that's been attributed to Rush Limbaugh, is "Slavery built the South. I'm not saying that we should bring it back. I'm just saying that it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark." Among the news organizations that reported that yesterday was our show at three o'clock. Limbaugh's response to this is -- and we want to be fair to Rush -- he says, "We've gone back, we've looked at everything else, and there is not even an inkling that any of the words in that quote are accurate. It is outrageous." So Rush Limbaugh is denying that that quote has come from him. Uh, obviously that does not take away the fact that there are other quotes [that] have been attributed to Rush Limbaugh which many people in the African-American community and many other minority communities do find offensive.RUSH: Okay. So Rick Sanchez repeats the slavery quote, notes that I deny it, and then says it doesn't matter. Do you know who Rick Sanchez is? Do you know he's got two middle names? Rick "DUI" Sanchez, Rick "Leaving-the-Scene" Sanchez. Rick Sanchez was a hit-and-run driver when he lived in Miami, and he is a hit-and-run reporter. From the New York Observer, October 9th, 2007: "Mr. Sanchez had already survived what would ordinarily be a career-killer. While leaving a Miami Dolphins game with his father in 1990, Mr. Sanchez struck a drunken pedestrian, who later died of his injuries. According to police, Mr. Sanchez's own blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit, and he left the scene before returning. He ultimately pleaded no contest to a DUI charge, but avoided jail time, and even remained on the air. Asked about the incident, Mr. Sanchez's Ron Burgundy jocularity vanished in an instant."'I don't see where that has anything to do with anything,' he said, and called the inquiry 'a hatchet question.' He soon regained his cool though. 'Was it an unfortunate experience? Yes. Was it a learning experience? Absolutely. Do I wish it hadn't happened? Of course,' he allowed. 'I was wrong, because I had a couple of cocktails, because I was over the legal limit,' he went on. 'It could have happened to anybody. ... There were probably a lot of other people leaving the stadium that had had a couple of beers as well.'" From the Miami New Times, August 7th, 1991: "Minutes after midnight on the morning of December 10, 1990, an intoxicated Smuzinick darted out in front of a Volvo on a residential street near Joe Robbie Stadium. The driver of the car, WSVN-TV Channel 7 anchorman Rick Sanchez, became the subject of a subsequent January 16 New Times story that described the odd circumstances of the accident."Sanchez, whom a Metro-Dade police officer said 'smelled strongly of alcohol,' first stopped his car but then later left the scene. A blood test to determine Sanchez's sobriety was not administered until an hour and fifteen minutes after the collision. Though Sanchez says he tried to aid Smuzinick at the scene of the accident and flag down motorists, eyewitnesses claim the anchorman ignored the injured man and loudly told police and bystanders that blood tests were pointless, and would hurt his public image. His attorney, Richard Essen, now says the anchorman returned home and had 'a couple of drinks to calm his nerves' before returning to the scene," before talking to the cops after striking somebody near the Dolphins Stadium and killing him. This is Rick Sanchez -- and, hey, Rick? I got sources. I researched this. I sourced it. And I checked it before I decided to go on the air with it. This is how it's done, Rick, and I'm not even a journalist.
But this is what "sources" look like: The New York Observer and the Miami New Times, and there are other places where this story has appeared. (interruption) I don't know if the man killed was a minority. His name is Smuzinick. I don't know if he was a minority. But Rick "DUI, Leaving the Scene" Sanchez, now on CNN every afternoon spreading filth and lies, knowingly. Clearly if anybody is a "hatchet," it's Rick Sanchez -- and clearly, like many journalists, he can't take the kind of investigation or coverage he dishes out and the rest of his people dish out. They head to the tall grass, hide behind executives. (interruption) I know ordinary people go to jail for this. But he was friends with the cops! As a TV reporter, he was friends with the cops. He got preferential treatment. Yeah. I mean, he went home -- he's already inebriated, went home -- had a couple drinks "to calm his nerves," then comes back to the scene of the crime. Birmingham, Alabama, as we go back to the phones. Debbie, welcome to the EIB Network. Hello.CALLER: Hi, Rush!RUSH: Hi.CALLER: Great to talk to you!RUSH: Thanks very much.CALLER: I can't believe I got through. This is great (giggles) and one of these days you gotta come to Alabama and play golf. They say we have great golf here.RUSH: Well, I know. I've been invited many times. One of these times I'm going to have to go.CALLER: Absolutely. (giggles) But I was calling to remind you of that little incident with "Reverend" Jackson where he thought his microphone is off and he had a really nasty name for our now president, Barack Obama.RUSH: That's right. He used the N-word.CALLER: Yeah! It was on the news a few times, but, you know, of course he gets a pass. It's so double sided. It's awful.RUSH: Well, he used the N-word, and then said he would like to cut Obama's nuts off.CALLER: Yes.RUSH: Pardon my French, folks, but this is what he said, and I don't lie. It's what he said. He thought the mike was off, Fox News Channel, cut his nuts off.CALLER: Plus, he's supposed to be a reverend, you know? He's not supposed to name call people anyway.RUSH: What you don't know that I understand is that the Reverend Jackson can be a racist all he wants. He can use the N-word because Reverend Jackson "has no power." You see, the conventional wisdom is that black people nor any minority cannot be racist because "they don't have the power to implement their racism," which of course is laughable. So he, as a minority, he's a victim already. He's a victim of slavery. And he is allowed, therefore, to be angry all the time. "We must understand the source of that rage," we are told. And we are to look the other way when the Reverend Jackson practices his racism because it really isn't racism because he doesn't have any power. Doesn't have any power? Ask Don Imus about that, and apparently the National Football League is going to let Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton determine who is fit and who isn't fit to be involved in their league. But they don't have any power. So they can't be racist. By the way, William Rhoden, who writes for the New York Times, August 8th of this year: "The Rev. Jesse Jackson became the latest public figure to offer an opinion on the future of Michael Vick. Jackson said he wondered whether there had been collusion among NFL owners to keep Vick out of the league. 'I want to make it an issue,' Jackson said Thursday in a telephone interview. 'I want teams to explain why they have a quarterback who has less skills but is playing or at least is on the taxi squad, and a guy with more skills can't get into training camp.'"Two years ago this month," remember, this is this past summer, August, "Vick pleaded guilty to felony charges related to his participation in an unlawful dogfighting ring and was indefinitely suspended from the NFL." Should I even be mentioning this? Is this racist to cite the history of this story? I seriously ask myself. I'm just reading from the New York Times and I wonder if doing so makes me racist. Vick also lied to his owner, Arthur Blank that it never happened. "He was conditionally reinstated to the league last month by Commissioner Roger Goodell. Under terms of the reinstatement, Vick can take part in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and may play in the final two preseason games ... 'Democracy does not guarantee success,' Jackson said. 'Democracy guarantees an opportunity. It's not fair to de facto try to lock him out of his right to compete. If he can't make the team, don't let him play. If he can, let him work.'"Jackson, born in 1941, has been a civil rights activist for most of his adult life. He said that in some ways, Vick's attempt to re-enter the NFL was similar to Jackie Robinson's entering Major League Baseball." Now, that, folks, is outrageous. To sully the life of Jackie Robinson by comparing Michael Vick to him? Nothing against Vick, but, for crying out loud, these guys are willing to even destroy their own heroes and icons in the pursuit of the power that they apparently don't have. "Although their situations were drastically different, Jackson said, the challenge was the same: Which owner would have the courage to make a controversial signing?" Controversy is not bad. Controversial signing? Oh, signing Michael Vick was a controversial signing! Why, that was not bad then. Oh, no, not bad. Great for the NFL to put Vick back in there -- and Jeff Lurie, the owner of the Eagles came through. Andy Reid hired him, and it's great. And, by the way, it's fine with me. I have zero problem with it. I'm just telling you who Jesse Jackson is, 'cause sadly, our corrupt media is holding him up on a platform that he doesn't deserve to be on.
BREAK TRANSCRIPTRUSH: You want me to keep going? You do? You want me to keep going? All right. By the way, back to Sheila Jackson Lee for just a second. Remember, Sheila Jackson Lee was at the Houston NASA press conference a long time ago about a project to land vehicles on Mars to explore the Martian surface. And they had video, the little Martian rover was tooling around up there, and she asked a NASA spokesman if the Mars Lander would be able to see or take pictures of the American flag our astronauts left up there. Now, we've not ever had astronauts on Mars, that we know of. They may be there and we haven't been told, but we don't know about it, but we do know we had astronauts on the moon and they did plant a flag there. So Sheila Jackson Lee, in all of her public brilliance, will that rover go over and see the flag the astronauts left? From the New York Post, June 15th, 2008: "Anheuser-Busch gave him six figures, Colgate-Palmolive shelled out $50,000 and Macy's and Pfizer have contributed thousands to the Rev. Al Sharpton's charity. Almost 50 companies -- including PepsiCo, General Motors, Walmart, FedEx, Continental Airlines, Johnson & Johnson and Chase -- and some labor unions sponsored Sharpton's National Action Network annual conference in April. Terrified of negative publicity, fearful of a consumer boycott or eager to make nice with the civil-rights activist, CEOs write checks, critics say, to NAN and Sharpton -- who brandishes the buying power of African-American consumers. In some cases, they hire him as a consultant. The cash flows even as the US Attorney's Office in Brooklyn has been conducting a grand-jury investigation of NAN's finances." I just mention this to back up he's a race hustler. He's a hustler, but he has no power. The Reverend Jackson has no power, they can't be racist, Mr. Limbaugh, because they have no power. And the New York Times, we have actually found the story from 1987, Time's magazine, documenting Jesse Jackson's lies about Martin Luther King and his assassination and we'll link to both of these stories at RushLimbaugh.com. BREAK TRANSCRIPTRUSH: January 18th, 2001, ABC News: "Moving to pre-empt a tabloid newspaper report, the Rev. Jesse Jackson this morning released a statement admitting he had an extramarital affair that resulted in a daughter who is now 20 months old. 'This is no time for evasions, denials or alibis,' said the Baptist minister and former aide to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. 'I fully accept responsibility and I am truly sorry for my actions.'" (sigh) He was having the affair as he was counseling Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky episode, ladies and gentlemen. That's all you need to know about that. I'm sure you've heard it, remember it. I just wanted to refresh your memory on it. And from Jake Tapper. Now, this is August 17th of 2000. Jake Tapper who was at Salon.com at the time wrote this. He's now at ABC. "It's tough to imagine this year's Republican National Convention featuring a prime-time speaker who once said that that 'Zionism is a kind of poisonous weed that is choking Judaism.' Or that he was 'sick and tired of hearing about the Holocaust.' Or that traditional Democratic support for Israel is because of 'the Jewish element in the party ... a kind of glorified form of bribery.' And certainly not if he had ever referred to Jews as 'Hymies' and New York as 'Hymietown.' The Rev. Jesse Jackson, of course, has made all of these comments, and more."Everything that I have said today about the Reverend Jackson and Al Sharpton has the added benefit of being true. The things being said about me by the Reverend Sharpton and the Reverend Jackson are slanderously false and they know it, and they continue to spread them. Again from the tongue of the Reverend Jackson: "'Zionism is a kind of poisonous weed that is choking Judaism ... sick and tired of hearing about the Holocaust." Traditional Democratic support for Israel is because of "the Jewish element in the party ... a kind of glorified form of bribery,'" and "Hymies" and "Hymietown," and that's Jake Tapper, and I sourced it. "The only thing we love more than seeing a self-righteous politician go up in flames is to see a self-righteous clergyman politician go up in flames." Where is this? This is Blog.WaywardPoliticians.com, Thursday, April 26, 2007. "In January of 2001, Jackson, a two-time presidential candidate, owned up to fathering an illegitimate daughter 20 months prior. Talk about getting some Affirmative Action. Of course Jackson has been married to Jacqueline Lavinia Brown Jackson since 1962. The woman Jackson did the deed with worked for his advocacy group the Rainbow-PUSH Coalition. You know, when you name your advocacy group something like that you are just inviting trouble. Anyway, her name is Karin Stanford and their love fest lasted four years. He was paying her $120,000 per year from the coalition but not reporting it on his taxes. "He then paid her $35,000 cash to move to California and, is paying $3,000 a month in child support. That’s a lot of money and what" the blogger says he wants "to know is does this guy even have a job? I don't know what he does for a living and apparently neither does anybody else." The Reverend Jackson.
BREAK TRANSCRIPTRUSH: Folks, I really love you. I appreciate everything that you're saying to me. Snerdley, you should see the e-mail. You should all see the e-mail. I'm getting e-mail from people reporting what this guy is saying over here. This guy is spreading that lie, that falsehood. People are spying on the media and they're telling me all of this. Folks, I can't mention it all. Pointing out all of the flaming hypocrites, crawling out from under rocks against me would be like trying to track down all of Madonna's sex partners. After a hundred of them you just stop counting and you realize the kind of culture that you're dealing with. Lisa, Prairie Home, Missouri, welcome to the EIB Network. Hi.CALLER: Hello, Rush.RUSH: Hi.CALLER: What an honor.RUSH: Thank you very much.CALLER: I have a question for you.RUSH: Mmm-hmm?CALLER: Does the government play any role in whether you purchase the St. Louis Rams team or not?RUSH: Well, they're trying to, members of the government are, Sheila Jackson Lee certainly is trying to.CALLER: Well --RUSH: They're trying to intimidate. Look, let's cut to the chase here, folks -- and, Lisa, hang on. Let's cut to the chase here. I can think of no liberal -- no matter how foulmouthed, no matter how hateful, in entertainment or outside entertainment -- who would be banned from being part of an NFL ownership group. I can't think of one liberal inside or outside entertainment, foulmouthed or not. I can't think of one liberal who would even be treated like this. This is all about smearing mainstream, traditional conservatism -- and I, El Rushbo, happen to be the most prominent voice for mainstream, traditional conservatism. They cannot beat us, folks, in the arena of ideas. For my entire 21-year broadcast career, they have attempted to discredit me and everybody else who is prominent in conservatism. And it's now descended to the point that they have to make up things I said! And then when we catch them making up things, they say, "Well, so what? He really believes them! He really believes the words we put in his mouth, and we know he believes them. We know who he is." There are people... No liberal would ever be treated like this, no matter how foulmouthed. I mean, there are rappers that own parts of NBA teams. Lyrics to their songs we couldn't play on this radio show. They're celebrated. "Cool, daddy. Cool!" Now, Lisa, are you still there?CALLER: Yes, sir.RUSH: You sound very tired.CALLER: No, I'm just nervous 'cause I'm getting to talk to you. Like, you're like my idol.RUSH: Aw. That's great.CALLER: I think you're wonderful. Anyway, I think that if you can purchase the team, then you should purchase the team, and I do not understand why Sheila Jackson Lee is talking about it on the House floor if it's no place for it.RUSH: I just explained it.CALLER: I agree. I agree.RUSH: She's not trying to keep me out of the NFL. This is just an attack on all of us who are conservatives. Look, they're scared. Conservatism is in ascendancy. Conservatism is rising. Conservatism is growing. Obama's in trouble, folks. You can't take the politics out of me in this, 'cause it's not about the National Football League. It's just the latest vehicle for them to go after me. Now, Lisa, I want you to hang on. Mr. Snerdley has to get some information from you because I am going to give you your choice of a Select Comfort bed because I know you're tired. You sound tired. You're probably not sleeping well as indicated by the nervousness you feel talking to me. So, Snerdley will get the information necessary to get you a Select Comfort bed, how to do it, the kind you want. The Sleep Number Select Comfort bed.

Rush Tells All About The Rams Deal

Rush Tells All About the Rams Deal
October 15, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: All right, folks, let me tell you what I now can tell you about the National Football League, the St. Louis Rams and my participation in a group seeking to buy the St. Louis Rams. There's a lot of things I've not been able to say because we were bound by a confidentiality agreement that all of the bidding groups have with Goldman Sachs, which is the broker handling the potential sale, but now that I'm no longer part of the group there's some things that I can tell you that are fascinating that you probably don't know. And not about me and not about the bid per se, but what really led to this result taking place.
Now, let me first trace my interest in this. It goes back to maybe the first part of this year. I forget exactly when it was, but when it was made public that the St. Louis Rams might be for sale, I said, "Oh, that's cool," and I said something about it on the radio. The St. Louis media started calling me, "Are you really going to put in a bid for the Rams?" I said, "I can't talk about that. I've not talked to anybody at the Rams. I've always had a dream of being involved in the National Football League, being an owner," and so forth and so on. It went on for a period of weeks and months, and it would go dormant for a while, then it would come back to life. And one Saturday I was out playing golf at Donald Trump's course here in West Palm Beach, and as I hit the practice range I saw a guy that I had met a couple of times previously, Dave Checketts. And Dave Checketts said, "You know, this Rams thing is real. I really would love to talk to you about it." I said, "Okay."
So we set a date and Dave Checketts and a mutual friend came to my home, I served them lunch and Checketts made his pitch, "This is what we think it's going to take. This is what we would like from you. We would like you very much to be part of this." They had a brief preliminary financial breakdown of what was involved, but at that point in time nobody knew anything because the bids hadn't taken place and the status of the Rams as a business wasn't known, so it was preliminary. And based on what he showed me, I said, "Okay, I'm in." So he came to me, probably with knowledge I had interest in this, but I met him on the practice range at a golf course. He came to my home some weeks later, it was either late May or early June for about an hour-and-a-half or two hours, and we sealed the deal and that was that. And I said to him at this meeting, "Are you aware of the firestorm this --" "Oh, yes, totally aware, Rush, and believe me, I wouldn't have approached you if I hadn't taken care of that. I would not have even come and asked you to be part of the group if I had not cleared your involvement with people at the highest levels of the National Football League."
And my mistake at that point was not asking him, "All right, do you really mean it, and who did you speak to?" He gave me a couple of names that are pretty high up and led me to believe that it was all handled and that he was fully prepared for what was going to happen. When the whole thing started to unravel last week, whenever this thing leaked -- and, by the way, I learned yesterday that George Soros might be in this group. Reuters had a story that George Soros is one of Dave Checketts's partners. I did not know that. I wasn't told that. Mr. Checketts is not the primary partner here. The NFL has a rule that the primary owner has to have 30% equity in the team, and our group lost our 30% equity guy, and we had to scramble and find a new one, and I was told who it was, but now I'm wondering if it was Soros and I wasn't told. Soros and Checketts did, I have learned, partner together previously to try to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mr. Soros, of course, is well known politically for his left-wing slants, his politics fit in perfectly, apparently, with what the National Football League is becoming. But I wonder if they know that he is also involved in the movement to legalize marijuana and how that will play as the owners decide whether or not he's fit. This is all speculative because I don't know that he's in the group. Reuters reported it yesterday.
So when this all started to unravel with the leaking of my being part of the group, the predictable firestorm started, and I said, "Are you guys prepared here? Do you understand what's going on?" "Oh, yeah, we want you to be a partner, don't worry, Rush, I would not have gone this far if I hadn't wired this before I even spoke to you." Now, remember, I did not seek them out, they sought me out. They came here to my home. So eventually when DeMaurice Smith -- and he may pronounce it DeMaurice, I'm not sure -- DeMaurice Smith is the new executive director of the National Football League Players Association, he sent a letter to the Commissioner Roger Goodell strongly objecting to my being anywhere near the National Football League on the basis that I don't unify, I'm a divider and divisive and this sort of thing.
Then of course the two race hustlers, the Reverend Jackson and Reverend Sharpton got involved, and I got a call on Tuesday night from Dave Checketts, "I'm sorry, I have to ask you to withdraw." And I said, "I thought you had this wired, I thought --" "Well, Rush, obviously I'm sorry, I feel terrible about this but we can't go forward with you in the group." And I said, "Well, I'm not going to withdraw. If you want me out you go public and fire me," which he did. He sent me a letter yesterday afternoon right after the program and told me that the announcement would come this morning, and he wanted me to know that it was a very tough personal decision for him to make, he had a lot of respect for me, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, but when I got to the airport -- Kathryn and I flew to Missouri last night for a family dinner in Cape Girardeau and I had to go to St. Louis first to pick up some of the family, then back down to Cape Girardeau.
And, by the way, we arrived back in Palm Beach at -- what was it, 2:30, something like that? -- and the flight crew says, "The airport's closed. We gotta go to Ft. Lauderdale. Do you want to rent a car and drive home or do you want them to drive your car down to the airport?""What? The airport's closed? For what?""I don't know. Repairs," whatever it was.So we landed at Ft. Lauderdale and slept for two hours on the airplane. We got wheels up back home at 5:30 and rolled into the house at six. And I got about an hour's worth of sleep. My point is, when I got on the airplane yesterday afternoon at four o'clock I got my iPhone and it's already on ESPN that I've been dropped. I was thinking it wasn't going to happen 'til this morning because that's what Checketts said. But obviously that all leaked. So the thing that's happened here, now, the very slippery slope -- and this, by the way, is very crucial. I know all of the you people say, "Rush, don't be distracted!" I'm not being distracted because what is happening to the National Football League and what is about to happen to it, has already happened to Wall Street, has already happened to the automobile business.DeMaurice Smith, the executive director of the Players Association is an Obamaite. He's donated to Obama. He is a Washington lobbyist at Patton Boggs, and I think he even served on Obama's transition team. He has no experience in professional sports. The National Football League's agreement, collective bargaining agreement with the players expires soon. Next year, the salary cap -- if they don't get a new deal done, next year the salary cap -- will go away. And after that, there is a fear that the owners -- who think they're giving up too much of the gross in salary, compensation to the players -- might lock them out, a work stoppage. This is something that the Players Association doesn't want, obviously. And the real reason, the real reason -- and there are many, many reasons that are valid, but the real reason -- that pressure was brought upon me by Sharpton and Jackson and DeMaurice Smith and the commissioner is that the Players Association is using my involvement in the Rams and this whole episode as a bit of leverage in their negotiations, the upcoming negotiations with the league and with the owners on a new collective bargaining agreement. That is what's really going on, and the Players Association... I don't know how many players know this, but Mr. Smith has let it be known that if he has to he'll bring the White House into this. He'll bring the Congressional Black Caucus into this.So Obama's America is quite possibly going to include the National Football League, and pressure from Obama, the Congressional Black Caucus and other places might be brought to bear on the owners. I can't imagine that that's anything they want. You know, as all businesses are, they're regulated to a certain extent by the federal government but this would be a huge expansion of that. And that threat is being bandied about. And I don't expect anyone to admit it. The owners are not going to admit that. They don't want to. I'm sure that the reaction to this today will be, "Ah, Limbaugh doesn't know what he's talking about." It will be another one of these things, but that is one of the things that I do know is going on behind the scenes. And of course to make me the poster boy here for, "Oh, my God look! These guys, would they ever consider Limbaugh?" It's designed to intimidate the owners, frighten the owners and say, "We're running this league now, gang, not you. Even though you may own the teams, we're running it, not you," and this was a little warning shot fired across the bow to the owners to say, "Get ready, here we come," for the next collective bargaining agreement. So we'll see how it all unfolds. The end result of this, folks... Let me run through it very, very quickly. I have lost nothing. I have lost very little. On the other hand, our country has lost a great deal -- a lot more than most people realize at the moment.Oh, yeah, I would prefer to be noted as a part-owner of an NFL team. By the way, my stake was "minority." (chuckles) I was a minority owner, and Checketts has made it clear in his statement that I would have no operational control over the team and the operation of the club. I was also not told that specifically, but regardless. That doesn't matter. What I'm now going to be known as is The Mirror. I am the man who showed the country what America is becoming. I still love professional football. I'll still love the people that play it and admire them, and I'll probably end up remaining the biggest nonpaid promoter of the sport. But those people who enabled this event -- for their own racial reasons, for their own ratings, their own fundraising, their own face time, their own business reasons -- they're going to be just as unhappy as they were before this happened. It's a collection of unhappy, angry, agitated people, and that's not going to change. But this kind of stuff: This misreporting; lying; repeating lies while also saying "Limbaugh denies," repeating the made-up quotes, the blind hatred -- and, believe me, the hatred that exists in this is found in the sportswriter community. It's found in the news business. It's found in the race hustler business. As I said yesterday and I've said I don't know how many times in this program, "I love the National Football League." I don't dislike anything about it. I'm a fan. But the hatred that I am able now to mirror for the country to see is all over the place. And I tell you with absolute sincerity: I am more sad for our country than I am for myself. I'll be right back after this. Do not go away. These are dark days that we face, and I'm not talking about the National Football League or me. I'm talking about my news stack today.

The Attack on Rush Limbaugh - An Anatomy of Fabricated Racism

THE ATTACK ON RUSH LIMBAUGH - AN ANATOMY OF FABRICATED RACISM
By Frances Rice
Fear is as effective in enslaving us as iron shackles. One more nail was hammered deeply into America's freedom coffin when a group of private sector entrepreneurs were intimidated by race hustlers into ousting talk show host Rush Limbaugh from the consortium formed to buy the St. Louis Rams.
Armed with nothing more than demonstrably false charges of racism, fabricated to destroy Limbaugh, several black NFL players claimed publicly that they would never play for a team owned by Limbaugh. Into the cauldron of racial slime jumped the usual race mongering suspects, The Reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton - aided by the liberal media, including CNN, MSNBC and their ilk.
The phony charge of racism is continuously used as a weapon to silence conservatives who dare stand up for our nation's traditional values and oppose the radical socialist agenda of Democrats and the Obama Administration. Limbaugh deserves our gratitude for showing no fear of the race-baiters, fighting back and helping to preserve the freedoms that have made this country great.

RULES FOR RADICALS Saul D. Aliniky

Rules for Radicals

By Saul Alinsky - 1971

Hillary Clinton's 1969 Political Science Thesis ("There is Only the Fight") refers to an earlier version of Alinsky’s training manual. "In 1946,” she wrote, "Alinsky's first book, Reveille for Radicals, was published."

Background information

"Obama learned his lesson well. I am proud to see that my father's model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday." --Letter from L. DAVID ALINSKY, son of Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky

Hillary, Obama and the Cult of Alinsky: "True revolutionaries do not flaunt their radicalism, Alinsky taught. They cut their hair, put on suits and infiltrate the system from within. Alinsky viewed revolution as a slow, patient process. The trick was to penetrate existing institutions such as churches, unions and political parties....

"One Alinsky benefactor was Wall Street investment banker Eugene Meyer, who served as Chairman of the Federal Reserve from 1930 to 1933. Meyer and his wife Agnes co-owned The Washington Post. They used their newspaper to promote Alinsky....Her series, called 'The Orderly Revolution', made Alinsky famous....

"Alinsky’s crowning achievement was his recruitment of a young high school student named Hillary Rodham. She met Alinsky through a radical church group. Hillary wrote an analysis of Alinsky’s methods for her senior thesis at Wellesley College. ...

"Many leftists view Hillary as a sell-out because she claims to hold moderate views on some issues. However, Hillary is simply following Alinsky’s counsel to do and say whatever it takes to gain power.

"Barack Obama is also an Alinskyite.... Obama spent years teaching workshops on the Alinsky method. In 1985 he began a four-year stint as a community organizer in Chicago, working for an Alinskyite group called the Developing Communities Project.... Camouflage is key to Alinsky-style organizing. While trying to build coalitions of black churches in Chicago, Obama caught flak for not attending church himself. He became an instant churchgoer." Opening page - Dedication

“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to
the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history... the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.”

Prologue

"The Revolutionary force today has two targets, moral as well as material. Its young protagonists are one moment reminiscent of the idealistic early Christians, yet they also urge violence and cry, 'Burn the system down!' They have no illusions about the system, but plenty of illusions about the way to change our world. It is to this point that I have written this book."

1. The Purpose

In this book we are concerned with how to create mass organizations to seize power and give it to the people; to realize the democratic dream of equality, justice, peace.... "Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.' This means revolution." p.3

"Radicals must be resilient, adaptable to shifting political circumstances, and sensitive enough to the process of action and reaction to avoid being trapped by their own tactics and forced to travel a road not of their choosing." p.6

"A Marxist begins with his prime truth that all evils are caused by the exploitation of the proletariat by the capitalists. From this he logically proceeds to the revolution to end capitalism, then into the third stage of reorganization into a new social order of the dictatorship of the proletariat, and finally the last stage -- the political paradise of communism." p.10

"An organizer working in and for an open society is in an ideological dilemma to begin with, he does not have a fixed truth -- truth to him is relative and changing; everything to him is relative and changing.... To the extent that he is free from the shackles of dogma, he can respond to the realities of the widely different situations...." pp.10-11

Notes on Saul Alinsky and Neo-Marxism:

Alinsky's tactics were based, not on Stalin's revolutionary violence, but on the Neo-Marxist strategies of Antonio Gramsci, an Italian Communist. Relying on gradualism, infiltration and the dialectic process rather than a bloody revolution, Gramsci's transformational Marxism was so subtle that few even noticed the deliberate changes.

Like Alinsky, Mikhail Gorbachev followed Gramsci, not Lenin. In fact, Gramsci aroused Stalins's wrath by suggesting that Lenin's revolutionary plan wouldn't work in the West. Instead the primary assault would be on Biblical absolutes and Christian values, which must be crushed as a social force before the new face of Communism could rise and flourish. Malachi Martin gave us a progress report:

"By 1985, the influence of traditional Christian philosophy in the West was weak and negligible.... Gramsci's master strategy was now feasible. Humanly speaking, it was no longer too tall an order to strip large majorities of men and women in the West of those last vestiges that remained to them of Christianity's transcendent God."

2. Of Means and Ends [Forget moral or ethical considerations]

"The end is what you want, the means is how you get it. Whenever we think about social change, the question of means and ends arises. The man of action views the issue of means and ends in pragmatic and strategic terms. He has no other problem; he thinks only of his actual resources and the possibilities of various choices of action. He asks of ends only whether they are achievable and worth the cost; of means, only whether they will work. ... The real arena is corrupt and bloody." p.24

"The means-and-ends moralists, constantly obsessed with the ethics of the means used by the Have-Nots against the Haves, should search themselves as to their real political position. In fact, they are passive — but real — allies of the Haves…. The most unethical of all means is the non-use of any means... The standards of judgment must be rooted in the whys and wherefores of life as it is lived, the world as it is, not our wished-for fantasy of the world as it should be...." pp.25-26

"The third rule of ethics of means and ends is that in war the end justifies almost any means...." p.29

"The seventh rule... is that generally success or failure is a mighty determinant of ethics...." p.34

"The tenth rule... is you do what you can with what you have and clothe it with moral garments.... It involves sifting the multiple factors which combine in creating the circumstances at any given time... Who, and how many will support the action?... If weapons are needed, then are appropriate d weapons available? Availability of means determines whether you will be underground or above ground; whether you will move quickly or slowly..." p.36

Notes: Apparently, Michelle Obama referred to these words during her Democratic National Convention speech:

"She said, 'Barack stood up that day,' talking about a visit to Chicago neighborhoods, 'and spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about 'The world as it is' and 'The world as it should be…' And, 'All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won't do – that we have an obligation to, fight for the world as it should be."

Do you wonder who -- or whose values -- should determine what "the world... should be?"

4. The Education of the Organizer

"To the organizer, imagination... is the dynamism that starts and sustains him in his whole life of action as an organizer. It ignites and feeds the force that drives him to organize for change....
"The organizer knows that the real action is in the reaction of the opposition. To realistically appraise and anticipate the probable reactions of the enemy, he must be able to identify with them, too, in his imagination, and foresee their reactions to his actions....
"The organizers searching with a free and open mind void of certainty, hating dogma, finds laughter not just a way to maintain his sanity but also a key to understanding life."pp.74-75

"...the organizer must be able to split himself into two parts -- one part in the arena of action where he polarizes the issue to 100 to nothing, and helps to lead his forces into conflict, while the other part knows that when the time comes for negotiations that it really is only a 10 percent difference." p.78

"...the organizer is constantly creating new out of the old. He knows that all new ideas arise from conflict; [See Dialectic Process] that every time man as had a new idea it has been a challenge to the sacred ideas of the past and the present and inevitably a conflict has raged." p.79

5. Communication [Notice the emphasis on conflict, dialogue, relationships, etc. Team "service" is essential to building strong relationships through "common involvements"]

"And so the guided questioning goes on without anyone losing face or being left out of the decision-making. Every weakness of every proposed tactic is probed by questions.... Is this manipulation? Certainly...." p.88

"One of the factors that changes what you can and can't communicate is relationships. There are sensitive areas that one does not touch until there is a strong personal relationship based on common involvements. Otherwise the other party turns off and literally does not hear....

"Conversely, if you have a good relationship, he is very receptive.... For example, I have always believed that birth control and abortion are personal rights to be exercised by the individual. If, in my early days when I organized... neighborhood in Chicago, which was 95 per cent Roman Catholic, I had tried to communicate this, even through the experience of the residents, whose economic plight was aggravated by large families, that would have been the end of my relationship with the community. That instant I would have been stamped as an enemy of the church and all communication would have ceased.

"Some years later, after establishing solid relationships, I was free to talk about anything.... By then the argument was no longer limited to such questions as, 'How much longer do you think the Catholic Church can hang on to this archaic notion and still survive?' ...the subject and nature of the discussion would have been unthinkable without that solid relationship." pp.93-94

6. In the Beginning: The Process of Power [Notice the compromise needed to build the power base. Yet, since pragmatism has eroded all values, it's simply a matter of ends justifying means. It's not unlike churches that attract members through the world's entertainment -- then continue to soften or hide Truth in order to keep them happy and lure more. ]

"From the moment the organizer enters a community he lives, dreams... only one thing and that is to build the mass power base of what he calls the army. Until he has developed that mass power base, he confronts no major issues.... Until he has those means and power instruments, his 'tactics' are very different from power tactics. Therefore, every move revolves around one central point: how many recruits will this bring into the organization, whether by means of local organizations, churches, service groups, labor Unions, corner gangs, or as individuals."

"Change comes from power, and power comes from organization." p.113

"The first step in community organization is community disorganization. The disruption of the present organization is the first step toward community organization. Present arrangements must be disorganized if they are to be displace by new patterns.... All change means disorganization of the old and organization of the new." p.116

"An organizer must stir up dissatisfaction and discontent... He must create a mechanism that can drain off the underlying guilt for having accepted the previous situation for so long a time. Out of this mechanism, a new community organization arises....
"The job then is getting the people to move, to act, to participate; in short, to develop and harness the necessary power to effectively conflict with the prevailing patterns and change them. When those prominent in the status quo turn and label you an 'agitator' they are completely correct, for that is, in one word, your function—to agitate to the point of conflict." p.117

"Process tells us how. Purpose tells us why. But in reality, it is academic to draw a line between them, they are part of a continuum.... Process is really purpose." p.122

7. Tactics

"Tactics are those conscious deliberate acts by which human beings live with each other and deal with the world around them. ... Here our concern is with the tactic of taking; how the Have-Nots can take power away from the Haves." p.126

Always remember the first rule of power tactics (pps.127-134):

1. "Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have."

2. "Never go outside the expertise of your people. When an action or tactic is outside the experience of the people, the result is confusion, fear and retreat.... [and] the collapse of communication.

3. "Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy. Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty. (This happens all the time. Watch how many organizations under attack are blind-sided by seemingly irrelevant arguments that they are then forced to address.)

4. "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."

5. "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage."

6. "A good tactic is one your people enjoy."

7. "A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag. Man can sustain militant interest in any issue for only a limited time...."

8. "Keep the pressure on, with different tactics and actions, and utilize all events of the period for your purpose."

9. "The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself."

10. "The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. It is this unceasing pressure that results in the reactions from the opposition that are essential for the success of the campaign."

11. "If you push a negative hard and deep enough, it will break through into its counterside... every positive has its negative."

12. "The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative."

13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. In conflict tactics there are certain rules that [should be regarded] as universalities. One is that the opposition must be singled out as the target and 'frozen.'...

"...any target can always say, 'Why do you center on me when there are others to blame as well?' When your 'freeze the target,' you disregard these [rational but distracting] arguments.... Then, as you zero in and freeze your target and carry out your attack, all the 'others' come out of the woodwork very soon. They become visible by their support of the target...'

"One acts decisively only in the conviction that all the angels are on one side and all the devils on the other." (pps.127-134)

Alinsky's Rules for Radicals: "Known as the 'father of modern American radicalism,' Saul D. Alinsky (1909-1972) developed strategies and tactics that take the enormous, unfocused emotional energy of grassroots groups and transform it into effective anti-government and anti-corporate activism. ... Some of these rules are ruthless, but they work."

Notes from an article by Phyllis Schalfly titled "Alinski's Rules: Must Reading In Obama Era," posted at www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=318470857908277 (2-2-09)

"Alinsky's second chapter, called Of Means and Ends, craftily poses many difficult moral dilemmas, and his 'tenth rule of the ethics of means and ends' is: 'you do what you can with what you have and clothe it with moral arguments.' He doesn't ignore traditional moral standards or dismiss them as unnecessary. He is much more devious; he teaches his followers that 'Moral rationalization is indispensable at all times of action whether to justify the selection or the use of ends or means.'...

"The qualities Alinsky looked for in a good organizer were:

*

ego ("reaching for the highest level for which man can reach — to create, to be a 'great creator,' to play God"),
*

curiosity (raising "questions that agitate, that break through the accepted pattern"),
*

irreverence ("nothing is sacred"; the organizer "detests dogma, defies any finite definition of morality"),
*

imagination ("the fuel for the force that keeps an organizer organizing"),
*

a sense of humor ("the most potent weapons known to mankind are satire and ridicule"), and an
*

organized personality with confidence in presenting the right reason for his actions only "as a moral rationalization after the right end has been achieved.'...

"'The organizer's first job is to create the issues or problems,' and 'organizations must be based on many issues.' The organizer 'must first rub raw the resentments of the people of the community; fan the latent hostilities of many of the people to the point of overt expression. He must search out controversy and issues, rather than avoid them, for unless there is controversy people are not concerned enough to act. . . . An organizer must stir up dissatisfaction and discontent.'"

THE 33 STRATAGIES OF WAR

THE 33 STRATAGIES OF WAR
BY
ROBERT GREENE

Part I
SELF-DIRECTED WARFARE

1: Declare war on your enemies: Polarity

You cannot fight effectively unless you can identify them. Learn to smoke them out, then inwardly declare war. Your enemies can fill you with purpose and direction.

2: Do not fight the last war: Guerilla-war-of-the-mind

Wage war on the past and ruthlessly force yourself to react to the present. Make everything fluid and mobile.

3: Amidst the turmoil of events, do not lose your presence of mind: Counterbalance

Keep your presence of mind whatever the circumstances. Make your mind tougher by exposing it to adversity. Learn to detach youself from the chaos of the battlefied.

4: Create a sense of urgency and desperation: Death-ground

Place yourself where your back is against the wall and you have to fight like hell to get out alive.

Part II
ORGANIZATIONAL WARFARE

5: Avoid the snares of groupthink: Command-and-control

Create a chain of command where people do not feel constrained by your influence yet follow your lead. Create a sense of participation, but do not fall into groupthink.

6: Segment your forces: Controlled-chaos

The critical elements in war are speed and adaptability--the ability to move and make decisions faster than the enemy. Break your forces into independent groups that can operate on their own. Give them the spirit of the campaign, a mission to accomplish, and room to run.

7: Transform your war into a crusade: Morale

Get them to think less about themselves and more about the group. Involve them in a cause, a crusade against a hated enemy. Make them see their survival is tied to the success of the army as a whole.

Part III
DEFENSIVE WARFARE

8: Pick your battles carefully: Perfect-economy

Consider the hidden costs of war: time, political goodwill, an embittered enemy bent on revenge. Sometimes it is better to undermine your enemies covertly.

9: Turn the tables: Counterattack

Let the other side move first. If aggressive, bait them into a rash attack that leaves them in a weak position.

10: Create a threatening presence: Deterrence

Build a reputation for being a little crazy. Fighting you is not worth it. Uncertainty can be better than an explicit threat. If your opponents aren't sure what attacking you will cost, they will not want to find out.

11: Trade space for time: Nonengagement

Retreat is a sign of strength. Resisting the temptation to respond buys valuable time. Sometimes you accomplish most by doing nothing.

Part IV

OFFENSIVE WARFARE

12: Lose battles, but win the war: Grand strategy

Grand strategy is the art of looking beyond the present battle and calculating ahead. Focus on your ultimate goal and plot to reach it.

13: Know your enemy: Intelligence

The target of your strategies is not the army you face, but the mind who runs it. Learn to read people.

14: Overwhelm resistance with speed and suddenness: Blitzkrieg

Speed is power. Striking first, before enemies have time to think or prepare will make them emotional, unbalanced, and prone to error.

15: Control the dynamic: Forcing

Instead of trying to dominate the other side's every move, work to define the nature of the relationship itself. Control your opponent's mind, pushing emotional buttons and compelling them to make mistakes.

16: Hit them where it hurts: Center-of-gravity

Find the source of your enemy's power. Find out what he cherishes and protects and strike.

17: Defeat them in detail: Divide and conquer

Separate the parts and sow dissension and division. Turn a large problem into small, eminently defeatable parts.

18: Expose and attack your opponent's soft flank: Turning

Frontal assaults stiffen resistance. Instead, distract your enemy's attention to the front, then attack from the side when they expose their weakness.

19: Envelop the enemy: Annihilation

Create relentless pressure from all sides and close off their access to the outside world. When you sense weakening resolve, tighten the noose and crush their willpower.

20: Maneuver them into weakness: Ripening for the sickle

Before the battle begins, put your opponent in a position of such weakness that victory is easy and quick. Create dilemmas where all potential choices are bad.

21: Negotiate while advancing: Diplomatic war

Before and during negotiations, keep advancing, creating relentless pressure and compelling the other side to settle on your terms. The more you take, the more you can give back in meaningless concessions. Create a reputation for being tough and uncompromising so that people are giving ground even before they meet you.

22: Know how to end things: Exit strategy

You are judged by how well things conclude. Know when to stop. Avoid all conflicts and entanglements from which there are no realistic exits.

Part V

UNCONVENTIONAL WARFARE

23: Weave a seamless blend of fact and fiction: Misperception

Make it hard for your enemies to know what is going on around them. Feed their expectations, manufacture a reality to match their desires, and they will fool themselves. Control people's perceptions of reality and you control them.

24: Take the line of least expectation: Ordinary-Extraordinary

Upset expectations. First do something ordinary and conventional, then hit them with the extraordinary. Sometimes the ordinary is extraordinary because it is unexpected.

25: Occupy the moral high ground: Righteousness

The cause you are fighting for must seem more just than the enemy's. Questioning their motives and making enemies appear evil can narrow their base of support and room to maneuver. When you come under moral attack from a clever enemy, don't whine or get angry--fight fire with fire.

26: Deny them targets: The Void

The feeling of emptiness is intolerable for most people. Give enemies no target to attach. Be dangerous and elusive, and let them chase you into the void. Deliver irritating but damaging side attacks and pinpricks.

27: Seem to work for the interests of others while furthering your own: Alliance

Get others to compensate for your deficiencies, do your dirty work, fight your wars. Sow dissension in the alliances of others, weakening opponents by isolating them.

28: Give your rivals enough rope to hang themselves: One-upmanship

Instill doubts and insecurities in rivals, getting them to think too much and act defensive. Make them hang themselves through their own self-destructive tendencies, leaving you blameless and clean.

29: Take small bites: Fait Accompli

Take small bites to play on people's short attention span. Before they notice, you may acquire an empire.

30: Penetrate their minds: Communication

Infiltrate your ideas behind enemy lines, sending messages through little details. Lure people into coming to the conclusions you desire and into thinking they've gotten there by themselves.

31: Destroy from within: The Inner Front

To take something you want, don't fight those who have it, but join them. Then either slowly make it your own or wait for the right moment to stage a coup.

32: Dominate while seeming to submit: Passive-Aggression

Seem to go along, offering no resistance, but actually dominate the situation. Disguise your aggression so you can deny that it exists.

33: Sow uncertainty and panic through acts of terror: Chain Reaction

Terror can paralyze a people's will to resist and destroy their ability to plan a strategic response. The goal is to cause maximum chaos and provoke a desperate overreaction. To counter terror, stay balanced and rational.

HISTORY OF SEDUCTION

Thousands of years ago, power was mostly gained through physical violence and maintained with brute strength. There was little need for subtlety-a king or emperor had to be merciless. Only a select few had power, but no one suffered under this scheme of things more than women. They had no way to compete, no weapon at their disposal that could make a man do what they wanted-politically, socially, or even in the home.

Of course men had one weakness: their insatiable desire for sex. A woman could always toy with this desire, but once she gave in to sex the man was back in control; and if she withheld sex, he could simply look elsewhere-or exert force. What good was a power that was so temporary and frail? Yet women had no choice but to submit to this condition. There were some, though, whose hunger for power was too great, and who, over the years, through much cleverness and creativity, invented a way of turning the dynamic around, creating a more lasting and effective form of power.

These women-among them Bathsheba, from the Old Testament; Helen of Troy; the Chinese siren Hsi Shi; and the greatest of them all, Cleopatra-invented seduction. First they would draw a man in with an alluring appearance, designing their makeup and adornment to fashion the image of a goddess come to life. By showing only glimpses of flesh, they would tease a man's imagination, stimulating the desire not just for sex but for something greater: the chance to possess a fantasy figure. Once they had their victims' interest, these women would lure them away from the masculine world of war and politics and get them to spend time in the feminine world-a world of luxury, spectacle, and pleasure. They might also lead them astray literally, taking them on a journey, as Cleopatra lured Julius Caesar on a trip down the Nile. Men would grow hooked on these refined, sensual pleasures-they would fall in love. But then, invariably, the women would turn cold and indifferent, confusing their victims. Just when the men wanted more, they found their pleasures withdrawn. They would be forced into pursuit, trying anything to win back the favors they once had tasted, and growing weak and emotional in the process. Men who had physical force and all the social power-men like King David, the Trojan Paris, Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, King Fu Chai-would find themselves becoming the slave of a woman.

In the face of violence and brutality, these women made seduction a sophisticated art, the ultimate form of power and persuasion. They learned to work on the mind first, stimulating fantasies, keeping a man wanting more, creating patterns of hope and despair-the essence of seduction. Their power was not physical but psychological, not forceful but indirect and cunning. These first great seductresses were like military generals planning the destruction of an enemy, and indeed early accounts of seduction often compare it to battle, the feminine version of warfare. For Cleopatra, in fact, it was a means of consolidating an empire. In seduction, the woman was no longer a passive sex object; she had become an active agent, a figure of power.

With a few exceptions-the Latin poet Ovid, the medieval troubadours-men did not much concern themselves with such a frivolous art as seduction. Then, in the seventeenth century, came a great change: men grew interested in seduction, as a way to overcome a young woman's resistance to sex. History's first great male seducers-the Duke de Lauzun, the different Spaniards who inspired the Don Juan legend-began to adopt the methods traditionally employed by women. They learned to dazzle with their appearance (often androgynous in nature), to stimulate the imagination, to play the coquette. They also added a new, masculine element to the game: seductive language, for they had discovered a woman's weakness for soft words. These two forms of seduction-the feminine use of appearances and the masculine use of language-would often cross gender lines: Casanova would dazzle a woman with his clothes, Ninon de l'Enclos would charm a man with her words.

At the same time that men were developing their version of seduction, others began to adapt the art for social purposes. As Europe's feudal system of government faded into the past, courtiers needed to get their way in court without the use of force. They learned the power to be gained by seducing their superiors and competitors through psychological games, soft words, a little coquetry. As culture became democratized, actors, dandies, and artists came to use the tactics of seduction as a way to charm and win over their audience and social milieu. In the nineteenth century another great change occurred: politicians like Napoleon consciously saw themselves as seducers, on a grand scale. These men depended on the art of seductive oratory, but they also mastered what had once been feminine strategies: staging vast spectacles, using theatrical devices, creating a charged physical presence. All this, they learned, was the essence of charisma-and remains so today. By seducing the masses they could accumulate immense power without the use of force.

Today we have reached the ultimate point in the evolution of seduction. Now more than ever, force or brutality of any kind is discouraged. All areas of social life require the ability to persuade people in a way that does not offend or impose itself. Forms of seduction can be found everywhere, blending male and female strategies. Advertisements insinuate, the soft sell dominates. If we are to change people's opinions-and affecting opinion is basic to seduction-we must act in subtle, subliminal ways. Today no political campaign can work without seduction. Since the era of John F. Kennedy, political figures are required to have a degree of charisma, a fascinating presence, or they will lose their audience's attention, which is half the battle. The film world and media create a galaxy of seductive stars and images. We are saturated in the seductive. But even if much has changed in degree and scope, the essence of seduction is constant: never be forceful or direct; instead, use pleasure as bait, playing on people's emotions, stirring desire and confusion, inducing psychological surrender. In seduction as it is practiced today, the methods of Cleopatra still hold.

THE ART OF SEDUCTION

THE ART OF SEDUCTION
BY
ROBERT GREENE

1-THE SIREN

A man is often secretly oppressed by the role he has to play-by always having to be responsible, in control, and rational. The Siren is the ultimate male fantasy figure because she offers a total release from the limitations of his life. In her presence, which is always heightened and sexually charged, the male feels transported to a world of pure pleasure. She is dangerous, and in pursuing her energetically the man can lose control over himself, something he yearns to do. The Siren is a mirage; she lures men by cultivating a particular appearance and manner. In a world where women are often too timid to project such an image, learn to take control of the male libido by embodying his fantasy.

2-THE RAKE

A woman never quite feels desired and appreciated enough. She wants attention, but a man is too often distracted and unresponsive. The Rake is a great female fantasy-figure-when he desires a woman, brief though that moment may be, he will go to the ends of the earth for her. He may be disloyal, dishonest, and amoral, but that only adds to his appeal. Unlike the normal, cautious male, the Rake is delightfully unrestrained, a slave to his love of women. There is the added lure of his reputation: so many women have succumbed to him, there has to be a reason. Words are a woman's weakness, and the Rake is a master of seductive language. Stir a woman's repressed longings by adapting the Rake's mix of danger and pleasure.

3-THE IDEAL LOVER

Most people have dreams in their youth that get shattered or worn down with age. They find themselves disappointed by people, events, reality, which cannot match their youthful ideals. Ideal Lovers thrive on people's broken dreams, which become lifelong fantasies. You long for romance? Adventure? Lofty spiritual communion? The Ideal Lover reflects your fantasy. He or she is an artist in creating the illusion you require, idealizing your portrait. In a world of disenchantment and baseness, there is limitless seductive power in following the path of the Ideal Lover.

4-THE DANDY

Most of us feel trapped within the limited roles that the world expects us to play. We are instantly attracted to those who are more fluid, more ambiguous, than we are-those who create their own persona. Dandies excite us because they cannot be categorized, and hint at a freedom we want for ourselves. They play with masculinity and femininity; they create their own physical image, which is always startling; they are mysterious and elusive. They also appeal to the narcissism of each sex: to a woman they are psychologically female, to a man they are male. Dandies fascinate and seduce in large numbers. Use the power of the Dandy to create an ambiguous, alluring presence that stirs repressed desires.

5-THE NATURAL

Childhood is the golden paradise we are always consciously or unconsciously trying to re-create. The Natural embodies the longed-for qualities of childhood-spontaneity, sincerity, unpretentiousness. In the presence of Naturals, we feel at ease, caught up in their playful spirit, transported back to that golden age. Naturals also make a virtue out of weakness, eliciting our sympathy for their trials, making us want to protect them and help them. As with a child, much of this is natural, but some of it is exaggerated, a conscious seductive maneuver. Adopt the pose of the Natural to neutralize people's natural defensiveness and infect them with helpless delight.

6-THE COQUETTE

The ability to delay satisfaction is the ultimate art of seduction-while waiting, the victim is held in thrall. Coquettes are the grand masters of this game, orchestrating a back-and-forth movement between hope and frustration. They bait with the promise of reward-the hope of physical pleasure, happiness, fame by association, power-which, however, proves elusive; yet this only makes their targets pursue them the more. Coquettes seem totally self-sufficient: they do not need you, they seem to say, and their narcissism proves devilishly attractive. You want to conquer them but they hold the cards. The strategy of the Coquette is never to offer total satisfaction. Imitate the alternating heat and coolness of the Coquette and you will keep the seduced at your heels.

7-THE CHARMER

Charm is seduction without sex. Charmers are consummate manipulators, masking their cleverness by creating a mood of pleasure and comfort. Their method is simple: they deflect attention from themselves and focus it on their target. They understand your spirit, feel your pain, adapt to your moods. In the presence of a Charmer you feel better about yourself. Charmers do not argue or fight, complain or pester-what could be more seductive? By drawing you in with their indulgence they make you dependent on them, and their power grows. Learn to cast the Charmer's spell by aiming at people's primary weaknesses: vanity and self-esteem.

8-THE CHARISMATIC

Charisma is a presence that excites us. It comes from an inner quality-self-confidence, sexual energy, sense of purpose, contentment-that most people lack and want. This quality radiates outward, permeating the gestures of Charismatics, making them seem extraordinary and superior, and making us imagine there is more to them than meets the eye: they are gods, saints, stars. Charismatics can learn to heighten their charisma with a piercing gaze, fiery oratory, an air of mystery. They can seduce on a grand scale. Learn to create the charismatic illusion by radiating intensity while remaining detached.

9-THE STAR

Daily life is harsh, and most of us constantly seek escape from it in fantasies and dreams. Stars feed on this weakness; standing out from others through a distinctive and appealing style, they make us want to watch them. At the same time, they are vague and ethereal, keeping their distance, and letting us imagine more than is there. Their dreamlike quality works on our unconscious; we are not even aware how much we imitate them. Learn to become an object of fascination by projecting the glittering but elusive presence of the Star.

10-THE ANTI-SEDUCER

Seducers draw you in by the focused, individualized attention they pay to you. Anti-Seducers are the opposite: insecure, self-absorbed, and unable to grasp the psychology of another person, they literally repel. Anti-Seducers have no self-awareness, and never realize when they are pestering, imposing, talking too much. They lack the subtlety to create the promise of pleasure that seduction requires. Root out anti-seductive qualities in yourself, and recognize them in others-there is no pleasure or profit in dealing with the Anti-Seducer.

THE SEDUCER'S VICTIMS- THE EIGHTEEN TYPES

The people around you are all potential victims of a seduction, but first you must know what type of victim you are dealing with. Victims are categorized by what they feel they are missing in life-adventure, attention, romance, a naughty experience, mental or physical stimulation, etc. Once you identify their type, you have the necessary ingredients for a seduction: you will be the one to give them what they lack, and cannot get on their own. In studying potential victims, learn to see the reality behind the appearance. A timid person may yearn to play the star; a prude may long for a transgressive thrill. Never try to seduce your own type.

PART TWO

1-CHOOSE THE RIGHT VICTIM

Everything depends on the target of your seduction. Study your prey thoroughly, and choose only those who will prove susceptible to your charms. The right victims are those for whom you can fill a void, who see in you something exotic. They are often isolated or at least somewhat unhappy (perhaps because of recent adverse circumstances), or can easily be made so-for the completely contented person is almost impossible to seduce. The perfect victim has some natural quality that attracts you. The strong emotions this quality inspires will help make your seductive maneuvers seem more natural and dynamic. The perfect victim allows for the perfect chase.

2-CREATE A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY- APPROACH INDIRECTLY

If you are too direct early on, you risk stirring up a resistance that will never be lowered. At first there must be nothing of the seducer in your manner. The seduction should begin at an angle, indirectly, so that the target only gradually becomes aware of you. Haunt the periphery of your target's life-approach through a third party, or seem to cultivate a relatively neutral relationship, moving gradually from friend to lover. Arrange an occasional "chance" encounter, as if you and your target were destined to become acquainted-nothing is more seductive than a sense of destiny. Lull the target into feeling secure, then strike.

3-SEND MIXED SIGNALS

Once people are aware of your presence, and perhaps vaguely intrigued, you need to stir their interest before it settles on someone else. What is obvious and striking may attract their attention at first, but that attention is often short-lived; in the long run, ambiguity is much more potent. Most of us are much too obvious-instead, be hard to figure out. Send mixed signals: both tough and tender, both spiritual and earthy, both innocent and cunning. A mix of qualities suggests depth, which fascinates even as it confuses. An elusive, enigmatic aura will make people want to know more, drawing them into your circle. Create such a power by hinting at something contradictory within you.

4-APPEAR TO BE AN OBJECT OF DESIRE- CREATE TRIANGLES

Few are drawn to the person whom others avoid or neglect; people gather around those who have already attracted interest. We want what other people want. To draw your victims closer and make them hungry to possess you, you must create an aura of desirability-of being wanted and courted by many. It will become a point of vanity for them to be the preferred object of your attention, to win you away from a crowd of admirers. Manufacture the illusion of popularity by surrounding yourself with members of the opposite sex-friends, former lovers, present suitors. Create triangles that stimulate rivalry and raise your value. Build a reputation that precedes you: if many have succumbed to your charms, there must be a reason.

5-CREATE A NEED: STIR ANXIETY AND DISCONTENT

A perfectly satisfied person cannot be seduced. Tension and disharmony must be instilled in your targets' minds. Stir within them feelings of discontent, an unhappiness with their circumstances and with themselves: their life lacks adventure, they have strayed from the ideals of their youth, they have become boring. The feelings of inadequacy that you create will give you space to insinuate yourself, to make them see you as the answer to their problems. Pain and anxiety are the proper precursors to pleasure. Learn to manufacture the need that you can fill.

6-MASTER THE ART OF INSINUATION

Making your targets feel dissatisfied and in need of your attention is essential, but if you are too obvious, they will see through you and grow defensive. There is no known defense, however, against insinuation-the art of planting ideas in people's minds by dropping elusive hints that take root days later, even appearing to them as their own idea. Insinuation is the supreme means of influencing people. Create a sublanguage-bold statements followed by retraction and apology, ambiguous comments, banal talk combined with alluring glances-that enters the target's unconscious to convey your real meaning. Make everything suggestive.

7-ENTER THEIR SPIRIT

Most people are locked in their own worlds, making them stubborn and hard to persuade. The way to lure them out of their shell and set up your seduction is to enter their spirit. Play by their rules, enjoy what they enjoy, adapt yourself to their moods. In doing so you will stroke their deep-rooted narcissism and lower their defenses. Hypnotized by the mirror image you present, they will open up, becoming vulnerable to your subtle influence. Soon you can shift the dynamic: once you have entered their spirit you can make them enter yours, at a point when it is too late to turn back. Indulge your targets' every mood and whim, giving them nothing to react against or resist.

8-CREATE TEMPTATION

Lure the target deep into your seduction by creating the proper temptation: a glimpse of the pleasures to come. As the serpent tempted Eve with the promise of forbidden knowledge, you must awaken a desire in your targets that they cannot control. Find that weakness of theirs, that fantasy that has yet to be realized, and hint that you can lead them toward it. It could be wealth, it could be adventure, it could be forbidden and guilty pleasures; the key is to keep it vague. Dangle the prize before their eyes, postponing satisfaction, and let their minds do the rest. The future seems ripe with possibility. Stimulate a curiosity stronger than the doubts and anxieties that go with it, and they will follow you.

9-KEEP THEM IN SUSPENSE- WHAT COMES NEXT?

The moment people feel they know what to expect from you, your spell on them is broken. More: you have ceded them power. The only way to lead the seduced along and keep the upper hand is to create suspense, a calculated surprise. People love a mystery, and this is the key to luring them farther into your web. Behave in a way that leaves them wondering, What are you up to? Doing something they do not expect from you will give them a delightful sense of spontaneity-they will not be able to foresee what comes next. You are always one step ahead and in control. Give the victim a thrill with a sudden change of direction.

10-USE THE DEMONIC POWER OF WORDS TO SOW CONFUSION

It is hard to make people listen; they are consumed with their own thoughts and desires, and have little time for yours. The trick to making them listen is to say what they want to hear, to fill their ears with whatever is pleasant to them. This is the essence of seductive language. Inflame people's emotions with loaded phrases, flatter them, comfort their insecurities, envelop them in fantasies, sweet words, and promises, and not only will they listen to you, they will lose their will to resist you. Keep your language vague, letting them read into it what they want. Use writing to stir up fantasies and to create an idealized portrait of yourself.

11-PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Lofty words and grand gestures can be suspicious: why are you trying so hard to please? The details of a seduction-the subtle gestures, the offhand things you do-are often more charming and revealing. You must learn to distract your victims with a myriad of pleasant little rituals-thoughtful gifts tailored just for them, clothes and adornments designed to please them, gestures that show the time and attention you are paying them. All of their senses are engaged in the details you orchestrate. Create spectacles to dazzle their eyes; mesmerized by what they see, they will not notice what you are really up to. Learn to suggest the proper feelings and moods through details.

12-POETICIZE YOUR PRESENCE

Important things happen when your targets are alone: the slightest feeling of relief that you are not there, and it is all over. Familiarity and overexposure will cause this reaction. Remain elusive, then, so that when you are away, they will yearn to see you again, and will only associate you with pleasant thoughts. Occupy their minds by alternating an exciting presence with a cool distance, exuberant moments followed by calculated absences. Associate yourself with poetic images and objects, so that when they think of you, they begin to see you through an idealized halo. The more you figure in their minds, the more they will envelop you in seductive fantasies. Feed these fantasies by subtle inconsistencies and changes in your behavior.

13-DISARM THROUGH STRATEGIC WEAKNESS AND VULNERABILITY

Too much maneuvering on your part may raise suspicion. The best way to cover your tracks is to make the other person feel superior and stronger. If you seem to be weak, vulnerable, enthralled by the other person, and unable to control yourself, you will make your actions look more natural, less calculated. Physical weakness-tears, bashfulness, paleness-will help create the effect. To further win trust, exchange honesty for virtue: establish your "sincerity" by confessing some sin on your part-it doesn't have to be real. Sincerity is more important than goodness. Play the victim, then transform your target's sympathy into love.

14-CONFUSE DESIRE & REALITY: THE PERFECT ILLUSION

To compensate for the difficulties in their lives, people spend a lot of their time daydreaming, imagining a future full of adventure, success, and romance. If you can create the illusion that through you they can live out their dreams, you will have them at your mercy. It is important to start slowly, gaining their trust, and gradually constructing the fantasy that matches their desires. Aim at secret wishes that have been thwarted or repressed, stirring up uncontrollable emotions, clouding their powers of reason. The perfect illusion is one that does not depart too much from reality, but has a touch of the unreal to it, like a waking dream. Lead the seduced to a point of confusion in which they can no longer tell the difference between illusion and reality.

15-ISOLATE THE VICTIM

An isolated person is weak. By slowly isolating your victims, you make them more vulnerable to your influence. Their isolation may be psychological: by filling their field of vision through the pleasurable attention you pay them, you crowd out everything else in their mind. They see and think only of you. The isolation may also be physical: you take them away from their normal milieu, friends, family, home. Give them the sense of being marginalized, in limbo-they are leaving one world behind and entering another. Once isolated like this, they have no outside support, and in their confusion they are easily lead astray. Lure the seduced into your lair, where nothing is familiar.

16-PROVE YOURSELF

Most people want to be seduced. If they resist your efforts, it is probably because you have not gone far enough to allay their doubts-about your motives, the depth of your feelings, and so on. One well-timed action that shows how far you are willing to go to win them over will dispel their doubts. Do not worry about looking foolish or making a mistake-any kind of deed that is self-sacrificing and for your targets' sake will so overwhelm their emotions, they won't notice anything else. Never appear discouraged by people's resistance, or complain. Instead, meet the challenge by doing something extreme or chivalrous. Conversely, spur others to prove themselves by making yourself hard to reach, unattainable, worth fighting over.

17-EFFECT A REGRESSION

People who have experienced a certain kind of pleasure in the past will try to repeat or relive it. The deepest-rooted and most pleasurable memories are usually those from earliest childhood, and are often unconsciously associated with a parental figure. Bring your targets back to that point by placing yourself in the oedipal triangle and positioning them as the needy child. Unaware of the cause of their emotional response, they will fall in love with you. Alternatively, you too can regress, letting them play the role of the protecting, nursing parent. In either case you are offering the ultimate fantasy: the chance to have an intimate relationship with mommy or daddy, son or daughter.

18-STIR UP THE TRANSGRESSIVE & TABOO

There are always social limits on what one can do. Some of these, the most elemental taboos, go back centuries; others are more superficial, simply defining polite and acceptable behavior. Making your targets feel that you are leading them past either kind of limit is immensely seductive. People yearn to explore their dark side. Not everything in romantic love is supposed to be tender and soft; hint that you have a cruel, even sadistic streak. You do not respect age differences, marriage vows, family ties. Once the desire to transgress draws your targets to you, it will be hard for them to stop. Take them farther than they imagined-the shared feeling of guilt and complicity will create a powerful bond.

19-USE SPIRITUAL LURES

Everyone has doubts and insecurities-about their body, their self-worth, their sexuality. If your seduction appeals exclusively to the physical, you will stir up these doubts and make your targets self-conscious. Instead, lure them out of their insecurities by making them focus on something sublime and spiritual: a religious experience, a lofty work of art, the occult. Play up your divine qualities; affect an air of discontent with worldly things; speak of the stars, destiny, the hidden threads that unite you and the object of the seduction. Lost in a spiritual mist, the target will feel light and uninhibited. Deepen the effect of your seduction by making its sexual culmination seem like the spiritual union of two souls.

20-MIX PLEASURE WITH PAIN

The greatest mistake in seduction is being too nice. At first, perhaps, your kindness is charming, but it soon grows monotonous; you are trying too hard to please, and seem insecure. Instead of overwhelming your targets with niceness, try inflicting some pain. Lure them in with focused attention, then change direction, appearing suddenly uninterested. Make them guilty and insecure. Even instigate a breakup, subjecting them to an emptiness and pain that will give you room to maneuver-now a rapprochement, an apology, a return to your earlier kindness, will turn them weak at the knees. The lower the lows you create, the greater the highs. To heighten the erotic charge, create the excitement of fear.

21-GIVE THEM SPACE TO FALL: THE PURSUER IS PURSUED

If your targets become too used to you as the aggressor, they will give less of their own energy, and the tension will slacken. You need to wake them up, turn the tables. Once they are under your spell, take a step back and they will start to come after you. Begin with a touch of aloofness, an unexpected nonappearance, a hint that you are growing bored. Stir the pot by seeming interested in someone else. Make none of this explicit; let them only sense it and their imagination will do the rest, creating the doubt you desire. Soon they will want to possess you physically, and restraint will go out the window. The goal is to have them fall into your arms of their own will. Create the illusion that the seducer is being seduced.

22-USE PHYSICAL LURES

Targets with active minds are dangerous: if they see through your manipulations, they may suddenly develop doubts. Put their minds gently to rest, and waken their dormant senses, by combining a nondefensive attitude with a charged sexual presence. While your cool, nonchalant air is calming their minds and lowering their inhibitions, your glances, voice, and bearing-oozing sex and desire-are getting under their skin, agitating their senses and raising their temperature. Never force the physical; instead infect your targets with heat, lure them into lust. Lead them into the moment-an intensified present in which morality, judgment, and concern for the future all melt away and the body succumbs to pleasure.

23-MASTER THE ART OF THE BOLD MOVE

A moment has arrived: your victim clearly desires you, but is not ready to admit it openly, let alone act on it. This is the time to throw aside chivalry, kindness, and coquetry and to overwhelm with a bold move. Don't give the victim time to consider the consequences; and create conflict, stir up tension, so that the bold move comes as a great release. Showing hesitation or awkwardness means you are thinking of yourself, as opposed to being overwhelmed by the victim's charms. Never hold back or meet the target halfway, under the belief that you are being correct and considerate; you must be seductive now, not political. One person must go on the offensive, and it is you.

24-BEWARE THE AFTEREFFECTS

Danger follows in the aftermath of a successful seduction. After emotions have reached a pitch, they often swing in the opposite direction-toward lassitude, distrust, disappointment. Beware of the long, drawn-out goodbye; insecure, the victim will cling and claw, and both sides will suffer. If you are to part, make the sacrifice swift and sudden. If necessary, deliberately break the spell you have created. If you are to stay in a relationship, beware a flagging of energy, a creeping familiarity that will spoil the fantasy. If the game is to go on, a second seduction is required. Never let the other person take you for granted-use absence, create pain and conflict, to keep the seduced on tenterhooks.

APPENDIX A:
SEDUCTIVE ENVIRONMENTS/ SEDUCTIVE TIME

In seduction, your victims must slowly come to feel an inner change. Under your influence, they lower their defenses, feeling free to act differently, to be a different person. Certain places, environments, and experiences will greatly aid you in your quest to change and transform the seduced. Spaces with a theatrical, heightened quality-opulence, glittering surfaces, a playful spirit-create a buoyant, childlike feeling that make it hard for the victim to think straight. The creation of an altered sense of time has a similar effect-memorable, dizzying moments that stand out, a mood of festival and play. You must make your victims feel that being with you gives them a different experience from being in the real world.

APPENDIX B
SOFT SEDUCTION: HOW TO SELL ANYTHING TO THE MASSES

The less you seem to be selling something-including yourself-the better. By being too obvious in your pitch, you will raise suspicion; you will also bore your audience, an unforgivable sin. Instead, make your approach soft, seductive and insidious. Soft: be indirect. Create news and events for the media to pick up, spreading your name in a way that seems spontaneous, not hard or calculated. Seductive: keep it entertaining. Your name and image are bathed in positive associations; you are selling pleasure and promise. Insidious: aim at the unconscious, using images that linger in the mind, placing your message in the visuals. Frame what you are selling as part of a new trend, and it will become one. It is almost impossible to resist the soft seduction.
